Begin Today to Take Control of Your Personal Health With a Do-It-Yourself Stress Management Plan

By Dr. Carol Cross

Actions You Can Take Today TO Lower and Manage Your Stress

You are a Godbud, a unique expression of your Creator. Because you are unique, you are different from every other person. The thrust of this Unfolding Godbud lesson is to enhance your awareness of this uniqueness. This means that as you potentiate and grow, you still remain unique. You learn the Godbud lessons, but you bring your unique self - your unique seven potentials - your unique experiences to the lessons.

Each of us sees things differently and we act in patterns built upon our experiences. It also means that what works for one person may not work for another. Another reason to be aware of each person's uniqueness is to discover the talents of ourselves and of others. You can delegate responsibilities to others that are more appropriate for them. You can enhance natural talents. When we successfully apply the talents of ourselves and others, we are on our road to success.

One way we are different is our body chemistry. What is appropriate for one person to eat may not be for another. How can you tell what is right for you? You will find many answers throughout this lesson. As a Godbud you have access to many resources for healing yourself. This is just one of the lessons for reaching your personal potentiation through self actualization.

THE UNFOLDER AND STRESS MANAGEMENT

EACH OF US IS A UNIQUE EXPRESSION OF LIFE, AN INDIVIDUALIZED PRESENCE. We are affected in different ways by events, we think differently and we approach situations differently. What's right for me may not be right for you. Or, what's right for me today may not be right for me tomorrow. We change. We are Unfolding. We are Unfolders.

In our American society, we especially have many outer and inner environmental influences that cause stress in our daily living routines. These influences impinge on the body and mind which reacts to protect you. Examples of these influences that can be labeled stressors are: conflict, decision making, tests, failure, success, desires, self image, goals, divorce, marriage, loss of friends or loved ones, appreciation, hospitalization, public speaking, pollution, preservatives, injuries, accidents, promotions, drugs, lack of control, eye glasses/lenses, over/under eating, etc.

Underlying many of these stressors is fear, fear of a loss of something -- money, friendship, health, face, etc. Whn fear enters our feelings, we become even more uncentered. Then stress reactions become further stressors in our lives. All of these stressors require energy to rebalance
the body.

The result on our bodies of stressors in our lives is called G.A.S.: General Adaptation Syndrome. The results of stress are accumulated in the body in a general way. Our tolerance levels are different from each other and our own can fluctuate. Sometimes we react much stronger than other times to the same stressor (like taking out the garbage).

If we learn how to reduce any of the stressors in our lives, we can relieve some of the tension, imbalance and uncenteredness that results from them. STRESS MANAGEMENT means taking steps to relax BEFORE BEGINNING A PROJECT. STRESS MANAGEMENT means stopping WHILE DOING A PROJECT. STRESS MANAGEMENT means you relax AFTER A PROJECT. STRESS MANAGEMENT means you REDUCE AS MANY STRESSORS AS POSSIBLE throughout the day.

THE UNFOLDER - STRESS FIGHTING OR STRESS PREVENTION

How you operate your life determines how stress impinges on your life. There are two ways to deal with stress:

a) stress fighting or crisis management
b) stress prevention or preventive maintenance

Stress accumulates in the body which reacts with a general adaptation pattern. If you learn to prevent stress you can reduce the effects that could affect the body.

If you let relationships drift until a fight occurs, then you try to repair the damage, you will have more stress than if you take the forethought and time to build understanding and caring relationships.

The best way to deal with stress is to plan for it and eliminate much of it. Plan for satisfaction in your life and be more relaxed, joyful and creative. Practice preventive maintenance to reduce stress in your life.

That is the way of the UNFOLDER.

STRESS EXERCISES FOR UNFOLDMENT

Stress is generalized in its effects on the body. It also accumulates unless it is relieved. One way to relieve some stress is through physical exercise. Why do we need exercise?

To maintain muscle tone

To increase circulation of different body systems

To relieve stress

To lose weight

To keep flexible; keep joints loose

RULES FOR RELAXATION EXERCISES:

Don't stretch so far that you feel pain
Don't move quickly until warmed up
Stretch gently after concentrated efforts
Keep records to see your progress
Set realistic minimum daily goals so you maximize success
Only do what is fun for you
Avoid causing pain while doing exercises; otherwise, muscles will become tense again.

TWO EASY RELAXATION EXERCISES

EYE BLINKING

Many people cause inner tension and headaches because they stare and keep their eyes open for long periods of time. It is vital that as you UNFOLD you eliminate as many stresses as possible. It is difficult to center yourself and allow Spirit to enter when you are tense, nervous and headachey. So blink your eyes often in order to lubricate them and to cleanse them.

HOW TO DO IT FOR MAXIMUM RELAXATION

Every time you think about it blink your eyes as fast as you can 10 times, then repeat it three more times. When you wake up in the morning, before you use your eyes, blink them as fast as you can 10 times. Wait and do it 10 times again.

Repeat this each morning adding more blinks until you can do it 50-100 times easily. Throughout the day blink often. The exercise strengthens your eyelid muscles which will encourage you to blink more often. Staring is bad for your eyes and causes them stress, leading to tension and headaches.

TAP THYMUS GLAND

There are many centers of energy in your body. There are meridians of force or energy throughout your body. Here the Energy from Spirit glows through these channels to all parts of your body. One of the places this energy may be concentrated in the thymus gland.

Sometimes the flow from the Thymus is blocked by tensions or stress. You can release this energy by tapping this gland and saying these words
to yourself in a chant:

"I am releasing the energy flow from Spirit into my body and my life"

As UNFOLDERS we seek to Energize our life Force. This means opening our channels to allow more and more energy to flow into our lives. Energy in our lives is mediated through our body here on the physical plane.

How to release Thymus concentrated Energy

There are many reasons you may want to release thymus energy. Perhaps someone has surprised or startled you. Perhaps you have eaten a stress causing food or even found yourself in a conflict. Or even had good luck, or found great happiness. Any kind of change causes stress. And stress can block the flow of energy through your body. When energy flow is blocked, tension builds up and your muscles and tighten and lead to pain.

When you begin to feel un-centered or stressed, now is the time you need extra Spirit energy to be released. Pull on the energy of your Thymus. Tap your finger on your chest just below the joining of the collarbone. Tap it 5-10 times. It might be more effective to tap directly on your skin. Tap your thymus point throughout the day to be more balanced.

RELEASING BLOCKS BY TENSING AND RELEASING BODY PARTS

Many time energy blockage causes blocks in your energy flow system. This tension needs to be released and the free flow of Spirit Energy restored.

Where you begin is not important. It is vital you begin when you feel the tenseness. You CHOOSE whether you begin with the feet or with the head whichever feels better to you. Here we will begin with the feet.

Breathe in and tense the body parts by tightening the muscles or part. Hold it for 10 seconds. Then breathe out and relax each part before moving to the next one.

1. feet

2. calves, behind knees

3. thighs

4. buttocks

5. stomach

6. chest

7. hands

8. lower arms

9. upper arms
10. shoulders
11. neck
12. mouth/tongue/jaw (lower)
13. eyes/forehead
14. top of head
15. whole body

STRETCHING

Purpose: to release tension caught in the muscles.

There are many stretch exercises. In order to relax, you should not feel pain at any time. Always stretch before and after any exercises, such as a gentle (with knees slightly bent) toe touching, reaching for the ceiling and touching
toes again. Raise one leg onto a table and gently reach for the foot with your hands. Reverse.

Before you get up in the morning, before you go to bed, when driving any distance or riding, stretch to relieve tension, stiffness and stress. If you
have a chance to notice, cats and dogs always stretch before moving while they are getting up.

Before getting up, lie on your back in bed. Raise your buttocks up slightly. Wiggle them left and right gently. Continue by moving your back, then your shoulders and neck easily. You will be amazed how good your body feels after this simple stretching. Do it before you go to sleep and you will get better rest.

YAWNING

When you yawn, you are releasing some stress and tension.

ROLL HEAD

Purpose: to relax neck muscles, reduce tension, relax eyes.

Procedure: Close your eyes. Move your head very slowly at first.

Tip your head to your right shoulder. Easy. Do not cause pain. Tip your head to your left should
slowly. Repeat.

Tip your head forward slowly: then back. Repeat 2-3 times.

Rotate your head forward slowly; then back. Repeat 2-3 times.

Rotate your head to the right several circles. Repeat to the left for several circles.

If you hear crunching in your neck, that is normal. It is crystals that have accumulated. This
exercise will help to break them up so they can be dissolved.

PAINTING

Purpose: to relax your eyes, improve penmanship and drawing abilities

VERTICAL: Find a door, pole or other up and down line. Imagine a paint brush on the end of your nose. Move your head, not your eyes independently, to paint that vertical line. Say to yourself, "This is a vertical line."

HORIZONTAL: Look at the line of conjunction between the wall and ceiling, at the top of a flat building, the top of a blackboard, or other horizontal structure. Move your head, painting the horizontal line as you scan back and forth. Say, "This is a horizontal line."

DIAGONAL: Once you get used to doing the vertical and horizontal lines, find diagonal lines and follow them the same way. Examples are tie down lines for telephone poles and slanting roof tops.

SILHOUETTE: Find an interesting silhouette and pretend to paint it with the brush on the end of your nose. Do simple items at first. When you become more adept, do this while talking to someone.

Building the habit of moving your head to draw shapes will help your eyes for the rest of your life.

Remember to BLINK OFTEN!

Purchase two pounds of seeds. Dried beans will do. Go to a grocery store or better a outdoor farmers market. Walk among them, touching each tye of bean until you feel a pull toward one. Purchase those.

Open the bag and poor them into a large basin. Then begin running your hands through the seeds until you can a feel a sense of release.
