Who decided that a natural consequence of getting older would include adding prescription drugs and pounds of body weight at regular intervals, while simultaneously watching your quality of life decline?
In an effort to stop gaining weight, many motivated or desperate people will jump from one fad diet to the next. Sadly, more often than not, the problem persists. The resulting stress and disappointment often leads to antidepressants and the over-consumption of so called comfort foods. The only people who benefit from this scenario are the pharmaceutical and junk food industries. Meanwhile a large percentage of the population continues to grow fatter and more depressed.
This phenomenon is a growing epidemic that people are being conditioned to view as a normal result of the aging process.
How sad is that?
The real irony of this unhealthy reality is that any approach that invites people to look at the problem from a different perspective is branded as quackery. If you dare to challenge the status quo you must be some kind of radical. Meanwhile, the next #1 best selling diet book and new miracle drug are scheduled for release soon. One definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result".
If we are paying attention as the years go by, then older should naturally include getting wiser. Don't you agree?
There is a lot of wisdom in accepting the concept that your personal health and well being are your responsibility. The reason for that is simple. You are first and foremost an individual. Your needs are not the same as everyone else's, so no one is in a better position to care for your health needs than you are.
What makes someone else feel healthy and alive may not work for you at all. Health is an individual endeavor and it deserves your individualized attention. Proper education and a well-adjusted perspective can qualify you to provide that attention. It has been said that there are three kinds of people in the world. Those that want something to happen, those that make something happen and those that wonder what happened.
Are you among the small minority who are willing to put forth the effort to "make something happen?” If so then you are to be commended.
Once you embrace the concept that you are in control of your personal health and well being you will be on your way to a happier and healthier future.
